On the 20th May 2018 the ancient port of King's Lynn celebrates its past and present membership of the Hanseatic league, its maritime history, and the multinational make up of the town today, with a day of parades, music, film and events.
The King’s Lynn Hanse Festival signifies the start of the town’s festival season and is a celebration for everyone in and around King's Lynn to get involved in. In particular, local community groups are being asked to join the parade, either carrying their own national flag, or building and carrying a boat as a tribute to the town’s sea going history. Schools will also join in the parade with flags and boats, and use the Festival as a spring board to teach children more about the Hanse and the King’s Lynn’s impressive role in North Sea trade over the centuries. Local businesses are being invited to offer their services or provide sponsorship to ensure the day does justice to the town’s status as member of the Hanseatic League for over 700 years.
